Getting fit is the top of many people’s new year’s resolutions with gyms across the country seeing a peak in membership during January.

Combining your fitness journey with supporting a charity is an additional motivator to getting healthier post-Christmas. The more you move, the fitter you get and the more money is raised for your chosen charity. As an added bonus, buddying up with people from work to exercise together keeps you on track and accountable every step of the way and if there is a challenge set with an incentive to win – this may also help to boost your motivation!

If you don’t fancy joining a gym don’t despair, there are so many other ways to improve your fitness and wellbeing, these are a few that the WellGiving team like to do to get us moving.

1. Get outside

We know that January is generally cold and dark but going for a short walk, run or bike ride outdoors will be so beneficial to your mental health. When you are working from home it can be too easy to stay inside all day, every day so try to get outside as much as possible.

2. Join an online class

During the lockdowns many fitness experts took their classes online and many have remained offering this to those who are not ready to return to face-to-face classes.

3. Switch onto YouTube

Fancy giving a Joe Wicks workout a go, learn to balance with Yoga or improve your posture with Pilates. There are many YouTube videos that you can choose from.

The most important thing is to move. It really doesn’t matter how you do that because with WellGiving, everything counts, even just standing and walking around your house can improve your step count and add to your challenge rewards.

Once you have found the right challenge that works for you, prioritise your workout and add it into your diary to give yourself the time to do it. If you focus on the rewards such as the fundraising money you will receive, the health benefits and supporting the other team members will help you to remain motivated and achieve the results that you are looking for.

Good luck with your January challenge and let us know how you are getting on on our instagram.
